Travel to Aarhus

Flights

Billund and Aarhus Airports

The two nearest airports are Billund Airport (BLL) and Aarhus Airport (AAR). The majority of international flights arrive at Billund but it is usually worth checking both.

Train

All trains to Aarhus arrive at Aarhus Central Station / Aarhus H, which is walking distance from the venue and less than 15 minutes walk from the suggested hotels.

If you are staying further away, you can switch to light rail/trams at the railroad station, taxis are parked in front of the railroad station, and most buses stop in the area around.

See “Transportation in and around Aarhus” for more information.

Car

If you’re driving to Aarhus, you’ll most likely be coming from the south and should aim for the Aarhus S ramp. That said, your favourite map or GPS service will provide the best directions.

Parking in Aarhus

There is limited free parking available in the city centre of Aarhus, unless it is included with your accommodation. We suggest that you either park further away and travel the last stretch by bus/light rail or walk, or use one of the parking garages.

Some recommended options:

  • DOKK1 Parking, 22 DKK / hour. 6 minutes walk to the venue.

  • Bruuns Galleri, 24 DKK / hour - 250 DKK maximum for 24 hours. 12 minutes walk to the venue.

Getting around in Aarhus

Bikes

If you are reasonably experienced on a bike, that is often the fastest and easiest way to travel around central Aarhus. Aarhus is bike friendly (albeit hilly) and offers plenty of options for short and long-term rental Aarhus by bike | VisitAarhus

If you are inexperienced on a bike, the other cyclists in Aarhus are most likely not patient enough for you. Your mileage may vary of course.

Bus and light rail (Letbanen)

Find the right bus

  • Google Maps has up to date information on bus and train lines in Denmark, including local buses in Aarhus.

  • Rejseplanen.dk and the corresponding apps for iPhone and Android is a dedicated bus, light rail and train schedule app.

  • Midttrafik Live provides live information on buses in and around Aarhus if you want to check the location and arrival times of buses.

Tickets

You cannot pay with cash or card on the bus. In and around Aarhus you have to buy your ticket before you get on the bus.

You can buy tickets using either apps, an online webshop or getting a travel card. For people visiting for a week, we recommend using the Midttrafik App. You can download it ahead of time.

Airport Bus

The airport buses are exempt from the above rule. You can buy your ticket to and from the airport in the bus and they accept both cash and all major credit cards.

Taxi

Taxis in Aarhus are metered, reliable, and easy to find, though they can be quite pricey compared to other transport options.

Most taxis accept payment by credit or debit card, so there’s no need to worry if you don’t have cash on hand. Additionally, several taxi apps are available, allowing you to book and pay for your ride in advance. The price using these apps is typically the same as metered fares but gives you the benefit of knowing the cost upfront.

It’s important to note that ridesharing services like Uber are not available in Denmark. Stick to licensed taxis to ensure safety and avoid "pirate taxis," which operate illegally and may not be trustworthy.
